Motivation is not found by aimlessly scrolling through your phone..
It's not found by watching others live their lives..
You will not find it in seeking the approval of other people..
It's not something you just stumble into..
Motivation is a tricky thing.. When we feel like we need it the most, it's nowhere to be found. Where does it go?
You can surely remember a time when you were motivated, and when you were eager to get out of bed in the morning and win the day.
When you were a kid, this is something that came naturally to you. It was part of your DNA.
As adults, we start to operate on a more fixed schedule:
Be at this place at this time..
Do what you're told to do..
Seek approval before taking a risk.
Operate inside of the box.
Once you do this enough times, you begin to act as if you have to be doing something, rather than doing what your heart and your intuition is calling you to do.
You show up to that same job, earning that same paycheck, and nothing really changes.
Change starts with a decision, and that decision is fueled by a desire to have what it is you truly want. As human beings, we often wait until the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of what it would take to change.
Rather than take matters into our own hands, we start to look outside of ourselves for the answers. We watch the motivational videos, we jump on social media to distract ourselves, we binge watch Netflix to feel some sort of reprieve from the current predicament of our lives, we grab drinks with friends..
Deep down in our hearts, we know that none of these things are truly going to create the change we are seeking.
It's once we choose to take action, to truly start to move in the direction of the dream, that we start to get the answers we need.
New conversations are had, new people enter into our lives, we see more serendipitous moments begin to happen as the dots begin to connect.
Forget motivation, focus on momentum. Momentum is a force that will propel you forward.. It's a wave that refuses to crash.. It's a beam of light that can shine through the darkness..
Make the decision today. Decide what it is you truly want. Start moving in that direction. Build the momentum that carries you forward, and that intention will become the prevailing factor over your current predicament.
Why live a life that you just "kind of" enjoy. Why show up every day if your heart's not truly in it? Why not go for what you know you're truly capable of achieving.
There's a beautiful quote out there that states,"I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." So remember, it is up to you to decide to change course when you are not fully in love with your current situation in everyday life.
Why settle? Why ever settle? You got this - Go turn your dreams into a reality.
